David Gerstein
David Gerstein, born in Jerusalem in 1944, is a prominent figure in the field of contemporary wall sculpture. From an early age, he was fascinated by art, and nothing seemed to quench his thirst for learning. This born artist embarked on an extraordinary journey, moving from city to city, school to school, to nurture his passion and refine his talent.
He began his artistic journey at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, a prestigious institution where he laid the foundation for his work. Then, David Gerstein’s lifelong dream came true: in 1960, he moved to Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts, a city that would profoundly shape his artistic vision. After his time in the French capital, he continued his studies at the Art Students League in New York, before heading to Italy in 1972, where he participated in the Florence Print Biennale, a key moment in his career.
In 1974, David Gerstein graduated from the St. Martin’s School of Art in London, further strengthening his artistic education. His travels, encounters, and immersion in various cultures have shaped his unique perspective and influenced his work. These cosmopolitan experiences have fostered a multidimensional approach to art, where each piece carries cultural richness and vibrant energy that define his modern wall sculptures.
David Gerstein’s career took a pivotal turn with the emergence of his famous wall sculptures, which combine abstraction, movement, and light. He is known for his monumental pieces, which transform spaces while bringing a bold new dynamic. His wall sculptures, often made of stainless steel or aluminum, are designed to seamlessly integrate into their surroundings while evoking a strong emotional response through their vibrant color and three-dimensional form.
Inspired by his life experiences in various world capitals, David Gerstein has created powerful, visually stimulating works of art. Our art gallery in Nice, on the French Riviera, is an essential venue for discovering his work, as is his presence in our gallery in Knokke, Belgium, which allows him to reach a European audience eager for contemporary art.
